quartier21 in the MuseumsQuartier provides the infrastructure for the production, communication, and presentation of contemporary cultural offerings. Its theme malls Electric Avenue and transeuropa, an area for cultural offices, artist studios, and exhibition and event halls provide space and support for a number of small cultural initiatives that are autonomous in their content and financing.

In addition to the theme malls and the multifunctional event spaces Arena21 and MQ Ovalhalle, the ground floor of the Fischer von Erlach Wing includes an open space that can be used for presentations, Prachner's art bookstore, and a restaurant called Kantine. The two theme malls Electric Avenue and transeuropa were designed by the young teams awg_AllesWirdGut, BEHF, and PPAG Anna Popelka Georg Poduschka and extend through the baroque halls of the 400-meter-long Fischer von Erlach Wing. They are open to MQ visitors daily from 10 am.

Cultural offices, artist studios, and guestrooms for short visits are located in the revitalized rooms in the historic buildings, some of them in the Oval Wing (Ovaltrakt) next to Breite Gasse.

transeuropa

transeuropa is about cultural communication and cultural exchange. The presentation spaces of interregionally and internationally active organizations like the Friedrich Kiesler-Zentrum Wien and KulturKontakt Austria are a central element in this theme mall. A9 forum transeuropa, an exhibition platform for the Austrian provinces, gives artists from the individual provinces an opportunity to increase their presence in the capital Vienna.

Electric Avenue

Electric Avenue focuses on all of the technologies that in recent years have led to enormous changes in communication, in social life, and in cultural production. These electronic aspects of life are represented by electronic music labels and initiatives for video art and Net activism among other enterprises.

Cultural Offices

A number of Austrian cultural agencies have rented small office units on the second floor of the Fischer von Erlach Wing in order to plan their activities and programs in quartier21. Art magazines work next door to music festivals, dance organizers share the common conference rooms with organizations like associations for art critics and contemporary art galleries.

Oval Wing (Ovaltrakt)

The two artist studios and the MQ guestrooms are situated on the top floor of the Oval Wing near the Breite Gasse entrance leading to the adjacent Spittelberg quarter. math.space, a facility initiated by math professors, presents math as a cultural achievement and defining force in modern civilization. It is designed for a broad public and features numerous events for children and adults.
